The F/V Clipper Surprise was originally constructed in 1981 by Easter Marine Ship Building in Panama City, Florida.  The vessel was acquired by BWS legacy company Clipper Seafoods and converted to a longliner in1988.

The Clipper Surprise was the first Clipper Seafoods longliner, coinciding with the founding of the company by David Little.  The Clipper Surprise is a forward house vessel with a standard crew of 17 and a freezer hold capacity of 7,700 cases, equivalent to 150 metric tons of finished product.  The Surprise is equipped for both longline cod fishing and “slinky” pot deep water operations targeting Sablefish and Turbot.
