The F/V Frontier Mariner, along with sister-ships Frontier Explorer and Frontier Spirit, is a purpose-built longliner constructed 1991 in Seattle, WA by Marco Seattle and commissioned by BWS legacy company Alaska Frontier Co. (AFCO). The Frontier Mariner, like all the Frontier vessels, is a highly fuel-efficient vessel with a high daily production capacity.

The Mariner operates with a crew of 22, and a freezer hold capacity of over 15,000 cases, equivalent to over 300 metric tons of finished product per trip.  Average trip duration ranges from 20-30 days depending on season and catch rates.

Captain Roland DeFrance 

Captain Roland DeFrance 

Captain Roland DeFrance has served as captain of the Frontier Mariner since 2001.  His history in the fishing industry goes back to the formation of AFCO in 1988.

When AFCO merged with legacy company Clipper Seafoods in 2008, Roland stayed on as captain of the Mariner, and again retained his position when Clipper Seafoods merged with Blue North Fisheries in 2019 to form Bristol Wave Seafoods.

Captain Randy Adkins

Captain Randy Adkins has worked in the commercial fishing industry since 1998. He started working with BWS legacy company Clipper Seafoods in 2006 and obtained his captain’s license in 2013. Randy joined the Bristol Wave Seafoods team as captain of the Frontier Mariner in 2023.
