Fleet
The F/V Frontier Spirit, along with sister-ships Frontier Explorer and Frontier Mariner, is a purpose-built longliner constructed 1990 in Seattle, WA by Marco Seattle and commissioned by BWS legacy company Alaska Frontier Co. (AFCO). The Frontier Spirit, like all the Frontier vessels, is a highly fuel-efficient vessel with a high daily production capacity.
The Spirit operates with a crew of 22, and a freezer hold capacity of over 15,000 cases, equivalent to over 300 metric tons of finished product per trip. Average trip duration ranges from 20-30 days depending on season and catch rates.
Captain Mario Garcia has served as captain of the Frontier Spirit since 1993, and his experience in the commercial fishing industry goes back over 50 years. Mario joined AFCO in 1993.
When AFCO merged with legacy company Clipper Seafoods in 2008, Mario stayed on as captain of the Spirit, and again retained his position when Clipper Seafoods merged with Blue North Fisheries in 2019 to form Bristol Wave Seafoods.
